About Us
History
Cyclone Volleyball came into existence in 2008. It began as a conversation between Coach Eric and Coach Tony. "What happens to the kids that can't afford to play club?" Pretty soon that conversation grew into a dream and then one day, we decided, let's do it! We started off small. One team; 11 girls, no gym and really no idea how to run a club. Everything the first year was on a wing and a prayer. We made a lot of mistakes, but we managed to have a fun and have a productive year. Our coaching staff was Tony, Eric and Sabrina. Our second year, we expanded to 3 teams, and this time, we had a gym. We had several successes on the court as well as seeing many of the girls succeed with their high school teams. We of course, made more mistakes along the way, but we felt it was another successful year. We expanded our coaching family to include, Coaches Anya, Henry, Kristen and Rory. In our third year, we expanded once again to include one more team for a total of 4 for 2010. We have also added Coaches Doug and Tony A into our family. As the 2011 season approaches, we look forward to continued success, on and off the court.
Philosophy
We are a small club dedicated to providing volleyball to anyone regardless of finances. We feel that volleyball is not only a great sport, but a wonderful teaching tool for life itself. And anyone with a desire and a passion for the game should have the opportunity to play. We are also not looking to be the biggest, or the "best" club out there. We simply want to provide the opportunity in a safe, loving and fun environment for not only the girls, but the families as well. At Cyclone, we feel we are more like family than an organization. Our coaching staff works very hard to achieve that feeling of family. To keep this philosophy pure, we do not run traditional try-outs like most clubs. We have found that we are able to create a more drama free and fun environment when we build from word of mouth or recommendation from one family to another.
